The theme of today’s meeting was STOP USING INTERNET EXPLORER and you will probably be OK. You can get a very good alternative at:
https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/ .  Other good alternatives are available.

At the end of the meeting, the question of how to get pages to open in Chrome rather than Internet Explorer.  I gave a long, correct answer, but here is an easier way.  Start Chrome.  Click on the three horizontal lines (the hamburger,) click on settings, scroll to the bottom and Make Chrome my Default browser. When doing a fresh install you will have a similar option and often when starting an already installed program.

Over the weekend, Microsoft announced they will be updating IE 8 for XP users.  This reduces the urgency of switching to another browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.) but I still think it is a good idea.
